2024: Labguru LIMS - Year in Review

What a year. There’s never a quiet year at Labguru, but even by our standards, 2024 was as exciting as it gets. From our acquisition by Battery Ventures and merging with Titian Software, to our array of new features and product updates, this was a year we can be proud of.

Before we embark on an even bigger, better 2025 — let’s take a moment to celebrate what we have collectively achieved throughout 2024. From the Labguru team to our proud partners, and most importantly, our wonderful customers, this blog is a celebration of you all.

Here’s our product highlights for 2024…

Sample Pooling

At the top of our customer’s wish list was a sample pooling feature, a nice addition to our Lab Inventory Management module. It’s everything Labguru stands for: efficiency, working smart, and leveraging tech to quite literally do more science. Our versatile feature enables labs to combine multiple samples—like DNA, blood, or environmental materials—into a single pooled sample for testing. It reduces the number of tests required, saving time, reagents, and machine resources, all while maintaining full traceability through parent-child connections.

From genomics and environmental science to manufacturing quality control, Sample Pooling has transformed workflows across industries. Labs can now scale operations efficiently, conducting fewer tests without sacrificing accuracy or compliance.

Connecting to SAP QM

In 2024, we also focused on improving our integration with SAP Quality Management (QM), creating a unified framework that connects quality standards with lab execution. Labguru was the missing piece that SAP QM users had been searching for — combining them in the modern lab creates a solution that streamlines laboratory operations with advanced ELN and LIMS functionality.

By seamlessly integrating with SAP QM, Labguru ensures quality processes are streamlined, accurate, and adaptable. This integration enables quality standards and defined processes to flow directly from SAP QM into Labguru without manual intervention, eliminating redundancies and potential errors. The result is enhanced productivity that allows lab technicians to focus on executing tests,  propelling labs to the next level of operational excellence while maintaining  existing compliance frameworks.

Labguru’s AI Assistant

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has exploded in the last year, but Labguru was already ahead of the game. We developed and launched a beta for an integrated AI-powered chatbot that is available for users from every page of the app. The feedback was tremendous, the beta phase was completed successfully and the feature will soon be available to all Labguru customers.

Labguru Assistant provides real-time lab support, helping researchers resolve queries, navigate datasets, and tackle experimental challenges faster—all while using data from your Labguru account for tailored, context-aware responses. Built with data privacy at its core, the Assistant uses a pre-trained model that does not train on user data, ensuring your research remains secure. By combining cutting-edge AI with Labguru’s robust platform, users gain a powerful, private, and productivity-enhancing tool to elevate their research.

It’s like crossing GenAI with your favorite lab partner!

Protocol Converter

It’s finally here! Labguru’s AI-powered Protocol Converter enables you to streamline your lab workflows. This innovative tool automatically turns a variety of offline file types into structured Labguru protocols — ready to use in just minutes.

By eliminating the hassles of manually managing and onboarding multiple existing protocols, the Protocol Converter ensures you can seamlessly integrate everything from experimental procedures to quality control and compliance workflows within Labguru.
The benefits are far-reaching. You gain a centralized repository for all your protocols, collaboration improves through the standardization of data, and decision-making becomes more efficient thanks to a comprehensive view of lab information. 

With Labguru’s Protocol Converter, you can transform how you handle protocols and drive productivity across your entire organization.

Bill of Materials (BOM)

Another major highlight of 2024 was adding the capability to produce Bill of Materials (BOM) reports within Labguru’s Batch Management module. This innovation has transformed the way labs plan and manage their production workflows, bridging the gap between research and commercial manufacturing. The new feature allows users to define the materials and devices required for every step of their production processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. By detailing materials upfront, labs can optimize resource allocation, predict production capacity, and minimize waste—all while maintaining full traceability from raw materials to finished products.

With the BOM feature, Labguru has redefined production planning for the biotech and pharma industries. It simplifies what was once a time-consuming and complex task, allowing labs to scale their operations without sacrificing precision or compliance. Whether it’s ensuring transparency, improving efficiency, or supporting large-scale manufacturing processes, the BOM feature has become an essential tool for labs striving to reach new heights in operational excellence.

EasyEdit

2024 saw a significant upgrade to Labguru’s desktop apps: EasyEdit and UpFolder, with retiring both and replacing them with a brand new EasyEdit2 app that includes both functions. The New EasyEdit app enhances how labs manage and automate file acquisition and visualization.
The app has streamlined file workflows with 2 main features.

Local Edit means users can open, view and edit Labguru attachments as if they were files stored locally on the user’s machine. This practically allows Labguru users to work with any proprietary file format within Languru. When edits are made, changes are automatically synced back to Labguru, ensuring seamless and efficient data handling.

UpFolder enables an automatic file acquisition flow, connecting any instrument that generates files to your Labguru account and making the upload of large files easier. Users can assign specific folders for general file uploads or link them to lab instruments, simplifying file management and keeping data organized.

This simple, yet effective tool has made file acquisition and management faster, easier, and more reliable for our customers.
